Why Google Ads, and Why a Freelancer?
If a customer in Saudi Arabia searches "شراء عباية اونلاين" or "plumber in Jeddah," Google Ads puts your business at the very top of that search — above the organic results, above the map pack. For businesses with clear buying intent behind their keywords, it is the fastest way to get customers: you can go from zero to leads the same week you launch.
Agencies will happily take your money for this — and charge a hefty monthly retainer plus a percentage of ad spend. A freelancer is often the smarter choice for small and medium Saudi businesses: lower overhead, direct communication, and someone who actually touches your account instead of handing it to a junior.
What a Good Google Ads Freelancer Actually Does
Running ads is not "set a budget and press go." Here is the real work, so you know what you are paying for:
- Keyword research in both languages: Arabic keywords often cost less and convert better than their English equivalents — a freelancer who ignores Arabic is leaving money on the table.
- Campaign structure: separating search, shopping, and display; grouping keywords by intent; setting geo-targeting to the cities you actually serve (Riyadh-only targeting for a Riyadh clinic, not the whole Kingdom).
- Ad copy that matches the search: the ad must answer the exact thing the person typed — not a generic "best quality, best prices" slogan.
- Landing page alignment: the page the ad sends people to must load fast, show the offer clearly, and make contacting you effortless. Great ads + bad landing page = expensive clicks, zero customers.
- Conversion tracking: WhatsApp clicks, calls, form submissions — measured properly. Without this, nobody knows what is working.
- Ongoing optimization: killing wasted keywords, adjusting bids, testing ad variants, adding negative keywords weekly. This is the actual job — the setup is the easy part.
How Much Should It Cost in Saudi Arabia?
Honest 2026 ranges. Your ad spend (paid to Google) is separate from the management fee (paid to the freelancer):
- Ad spend: competitive niches (legal, clinics, real estate) can run SAR 5–30+ per click; most local services land in the SAR 1–8 range. A realistic starting budget for a small business is SAR 1,500–5,000/month in ad spend.
- Freelancer management fee: typically a flat monthly fee or 10–20% of ad spend, whichever is higher. Be wary of anyone charging a percentage on tiny budgets — the incentive math breaks down below ~SAR 5,000/month spend.
Anyone who quotes you a management fee without asking about your margins, your average customer value, and your sales process is not ready to run your ads. Those numbers decide whether ads can be profitable at all — and an honest freelancer will tell you if the answer is no.
Red Flags When Hiring
- "We guarantee first position": nobody can guarantee this. It is an auction, not a reservation.
- No access to your own account: the account must be in YOUR name, with you as owner. Freelancers who run everything from their own account can hold your data hostage.
- Reports with no numbers that matter: "impressions up 200%" means nothing. You want: cost per lead, cost per sale, and which keywords produced them.
- One campaign, set and forgotten: ask how often they optimize. "Monthly" for an active account is too slow in the first 90 days.
- No Arabic capability: for the Saudi market, this is not a nice-to-have.
Questions to Ask Before You Hire
- Show me a campaign you managed in my industry — what was the cost per lead?
- How do you handle Arabic keywords and ad copy?
- Will the account be mine, with full admin access for me?
- What does your first 30 days look like, specifically?
- How do you report results, and how often?
- At what point would you tell me ads are NOT worth it for my business?
That last question is the most important one. The right freelancer answers it thoughtfully; the wrong one looks confused that you asked.
