Website Maintenance Cost in Saudi Arabia (2026): Care Plans

Website maintenance and care plan — updates, backups and security for business websites in Saudi Arabia

Your Website Is Live. Now Who Looks After It?

Most Saudi small businesses treat their website like a printed brochure: pay once, launch it, forget it. Then six months later the contact form stops working, the site loads like it is wading through sand, a plugin update breaks the homepage layout — or worse, the site gets hacked and starts redirecting visitors to a scam page.

Websites are not brochures; they are machines with moving parts. Software updates, security patches, backups, and small fixes are ongoing needs, not one-time tasks. A website care plan (also called a maintenance plan) is a monthly service where someone handles all of that for you. Here is what maintenance actually covers, what drives the cost in Saudi Arabia, and how to choose a plan that fits your business.

What Website Maintenance Actually Includes

A proper care plan is not "we will fix things if they break." It is proactive work, done on a schedule:

  • Software updates: WordPress core, themes, and plugins release security patches regularly. Updating them — and checking the site still works after each update — is the single most important maintenance task.
  • Backups: automated off-site backups, daily or weekly, so the site can be restored in hours if anything goes wrong. A host's backup alone is not enough; you want your own copies.
  • Security monitoring: malware scans, login-attempt monitoring, and firewall checks. Small business sites are the most common hacking targets because attackers know they are rarely protected.
  • Uptime monitoring: automated checks that alert someone the moment your site goes down — not when a customer complains three days later.
  • Small content updates: most plans include a monthly allowance of minor changes: updating prices, swapping photos, adding a news item, fixing a typo. This keeps the site current without a new invoice every time.
  • Performance checks: periodic speed tests and database cleanup so the site stays fast as content grows.
  • Monthly report: a short, plain-language summary — updates applied, backups verified, uptime percentage, any issues found and fixed.

What Happens Without Maintenance

This is not fear-mongering; these are the tickets I see most often:

  • Hacked sites: outdated plugins are the number-one entry point. Cleanup costs far more than a year of prevention — and Google may blacklist the site in the meantime, killing your search traffic.
  • Broken updates: clicking "update all" without testing can white-screen a site. Recovery without a recent backup means rebuilding.
  • Silent failures: contact forms that stopped delivering, booking widgets that broke after a theme update, SSL certificates that expired. Each one quietly costs you customers.
  • Slow decay: unused plugins pile up, databases bloat, images accumulate. The site gets slower month by month until visitors start leaving.

What Drives the Cost of a Care Plan

Care plans are priced by workload and risk, not by magic. The main cost drivers:

  • Platform: a static or Blogger site needs far less maintenance than a WordPress site with 20 plugins, which needs less than a WooCommerce store processing daily orders.
  • Site size and traffic: more pages, more products, more visitors — more to back up, monitor, and keep fast.
  • E-commerce: stores need closer monitoring (daily backups, transaction testing, payment gateway checks) because downtime directly equals lost sales.
  • Update frequency: a site you change weekly needs more hands-on attention than one that sits mostly static.
  • Included content time: plans differ in how many small changes per month are covered — 30 minutes vs 2 hours of content updates is a real price difference.

Typical plan tiers you will see: a basic plan for small brochure sites (updates, backups, security scans, monthly report); a standard plan for active business sites (everything in basic plus uptime monitoring, performance checks, and a content-update allowance); and an e-commerce plan for online stores (daily backups, priority support, transaction monitoring). Contact me for a quote — tell me your platform and site size and I will recommend the right tier instead of selling you the biggest one.

Care Plan vs Pay-As-You-Go Fixes

Some owners prefer paying only when something breaks. The honest comparison:

  • Pay-as-you-go looks cheaper until the first emergency — one hack cleanup or one rebuild usually costs more than a full year of a basic plan.
  • Care plans buy prevention plus priority: when something does break, plan clients get fixed first, often within hours instead of days.
  • The exception: a tiny static site that never changes may genuinely need nothing beyond hosting. If that is you, say so — I will tell you.

Questions to Ask Before Signing a Plan

  • Are backups stored off-site (not just on the same server), and how often?
  • What is the response time if the site goes down — and does anyone actually monitor it, or do I have to notice first?
  • How many small content changes per month are included, and what counts as "small"?
  • Who is responsible if an update breaks the site — is the fix included?
  • Can I cancel monthly, or am I locked into a year?
  • Do I get a report I can understand, or just a "everything is fine" message?

A provider who answers these clearly, in writing, is one you can trust with your site. Evasive answers are the whole review.
